Greetings Colleagues,
I trust you're well. Today I'm celebrating, really celebrating two recent experiences.
As I shared with you, Shaundra Walker, Fort Valley State University (GA), is pursuing a PhD from Mercer University in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Higher Education Administration. Shaundra is a delightful librarian who speaks highly of the Alliance's work to strengthen the HBCU community. She will intern with the Alliance and assist with a data gathering project as we take a broader look at our library staff and accomplishments. I am requesting that you respond promptly to Shaundra's information requests. She will make her initial communication next week involving the use of LinkedIn to exchange information.
Dawn Kight, Manager of Systems and Technology, Southern University Libraries (LA), presented the on-line class "Using Technology to Enhance User Services" earlier this month. Dawn is a graduate of the Alliance's Leadership Institute III and recently completed the Harvard Institute for Academic Librarians. Learning outcomes from the class included the ability to identify various free and not-so-free technologies available to improve services to users. One participant commented, "I really enjoyed the workshop and look forward to other workshops. There were a lot of great ideas to enhance technology use within our library. We are currently in a temporary space while our building is undergoing renovations. Ideas that were presented helped me to brainstorm ideas that can take place in the library once we go back home. Thanks again, beautiful job."
During the class, several participants commented on the value of the class and remaining connected. Dawn and I have discussed the formation of a Technology Group for networking, sharing information and mentoring. Look to hear more from Dawn in April.
My time with Shaundra and Dawn added greater value to the work of the HBCU Library Alliance. Stay tuned for more information!
Respectfully,
Sandra
