Trenholm State's Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program Earns Reaccreditation Through 2023
Trenholm State Technical College Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program has been reaccredited through 2023 by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). According to Brandi Merrill, program director, "the CAAHEP Board of Directors found the Ultrasound Program to be in substantial compliance and issued the maximum award of ten years instead of the regular five year award. This is a huge success for the program and the College and I want to thank our faculty, staff, and students." Ultrasound imaging, also known as sonography, uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of internal body parts to help health care providers diagnose illness, injury or other medical problems.

In July, the Ultrasound Program underwent a rigorous and extensive reaccreditation process by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS) and the CAAHEP board of directors. CAAHEP is the largest programmatic accreditor in the health sciences field. In collaboration with its Committees on Accreditation, CAAHEP reviews and accredits over 2,000 educational programs in twenty-three (23) health science occupations. CAAHEP is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). "This reaccreditation provides our faculty, staff, students, and prospective employers in the River Region with confirmation that Trenholm State adheres to the highest quality in imagining standards. Our faculty and staff are committed to providing our students with the necessary skills to be successful in their career choices," said Sam Munnerlyn, president of Trenholm State.
