Alcorn to host Annual Ag Field Day

"Diversity and Sustainable Agriculture: Celebrating More Than 125 Years of Providing Access and Enhancing Opportunities," is the theme of this year's annual Alcorn State University Agricultural, Research and Extension Field Day. The event will be held Thursday, August 27 at 8:00 a.m. at the Jesse A. Morris, Sr./W.C. Boykin Agricultural Science Building located on the Lorman campus. The School of Agriculture, Research, Extension and Applied Sciences will sponsor the event.

Numerous topics such as high-value alternative crop production, enhancing sweet potato yield and quality, fresh produce production in high tunnel, and much more, will be discussed at the event.

Dr. Dewayne L. Goldmon, who will serve as the event's keynote speaker, is the outreach lead for Monsanto Company, a sustainable company that delivers agricultural products that support farmers all around the world. Goldmon is a seasoned professional in the field of agriculture, who has held positions as a technology development representative, market development representative, agronomic research manager, technical development manager, and product development.

Dr. Goldmon received his bachelor's and master's degrees in agriculture from the University of Arkansas. He earned a doctorate degree in agronomy from Iowa State University. He holds membership in several professional and social organizations, including the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Advisory Committee for Minority Farmers and University of Arkansas Alumni Board, to name a few.

Registration is free. Interested persons must register by August 21, 2015. Check-in begins at 8:00 a.m. and bus tours to various research sites will start at 9:00 a.m.
