Tuskegee University student wins nationally televised black college quiz show

Gabriel Smith won first place on the "Know Your Heritage Black College Quiz" show. Smith, a junior majoring in history, represented the university in the televised competition that was taped at Howard University in Washington, D.C., in December 2011. The competition, in its sixth year, was broadcast nationwide through February.

Smith faced students from 11 other universities to win a $5,000 scholarship.
