WSSU Chancellor to Serve on Panel at White House Initiative on HBCUs Conference

Dr. Elwood L. Robinson, Chancellor of Winston-Salem State University, will serve on a panel during the National Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Week Conference sponsored by the White House Initiative on HBCUs next month.

Robinson will speak about philanthropy and fund raising at HBCUs during the two-day conference in Washington, D.C. on September 20-21.

In June, Robinson, who had been WSSU Chancellor for only six months, challenged alumni to give at a rate of 10 percent. If the goal was achieved, Robinson promised a happy dance. Alumni met the challenge, hitting 10 percent and raising $544,517 for the university. Robinson kept his promise, posting a two-minute video on Facebook. The video reached more than 82,000 people by the first 28 days of its release. The fundraising effort received widespread recognition. The White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities works to promote HBCU excellence, innovation, and sustainability.
