EWC Students Recognized at Academic Honors Convocation 2012
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Edward Waters College recognized more than forty percent of its student body for their outstanding academic achievements at Academic Honors Convocation on March 21.

More than 330 students were acknowledged for maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or higher in 2011, and were given certificates of achievement to commemorate their accomplishments. Students on the President's List, those who maintained a 4.0 GPA, were additionally awarded medallions for their dedication to scholastic excellence.

More than 10 percent of the honorees made the President's list, which is a significant increase from the previous academic year; and the total number of students who were honored increased by 18 percent.

The guest speaker, Chief Ivan Mote of the Duval County Rescue Division, spoke on the importance of recognizing academic excellence and the power of perseverance. His empowering message consisted of his experience in overcoming family, career and social obstacles throughout his life, and how he is living proof that goals can always be reached with dedication and hard work.

"We are very encouraged to see such a substantial increase in the number of honorees," said Blake Hacht, a college spokesman. "Our students are increasingly demonstrating a high level of commitment to academic excellence. These truly are students who are on the rise."

Academic Honors Convocation is an annual ceremony coordinated by the Division of Academic Affairs.
