College Hall I Scheduled for Uplift

Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU) President William Bynum has announced the renovation of College Hall I to accommodate the growing number of requests for on-campus housing. Expanding over approximately 40,000 square feet, the newly renovated facility will return 138 beds to on-campus housing.
"In keeping with the vision and goal of putting students first and foremost at the Valley, I am pleased to announce the renovation of College Hall I during the 2014-15 academic year," said Dr. Bynum. "Renovating the facility wasn't in the university's plan for another year, but we are committed to significantly improving high traffic, student spaces on campus."
On-campus housing provides students an opportunity to experience community living and social relationships that will enhance their productivity in the world beyond campus.
Once the renovation is completed, the new facility will be a replica of Magnolia Hall, which was renovated in 2009. Renovations will include new study spaces, new heating and cooling systems, ADA compliant restrooms, private showers, upgraded security systems and fire alarms, additional storage spaces, internet, cable and modern furniture.
College Hall I was built in 1969, but went off line in 2006 after receiving fire damages. Since then, a new roof has been added the facility.
"The renovation process will affect students' day to day activities," said Tommy Verdell, director of facilities management. "During the renovation, fences will go up and they will expand away from the building."
Budgeted at $4.5 million, the project is expected to be completed spring of 2015.
