Alcorn State University News October 2016 Dr. Geraldine Young selected to participate in The National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties Leadership Mentoring Program One of Alcorn State University's faculty members from the School of Nursing has been invited to participate in a conference geared toward enhancing leadership qualities among nurse practitioner educators. Dr. Geraldine Young, assistant professor in the Department of Graduate Nursing, is one of eight nurse practitioner educators who were selected to attend The National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties Leadership Mentoring Program Thursday, Nov. 17 through Saturday, Nov. 19 in Arlington, Virginia. The Leadership Mentoring Program will officially launch during the Organization's Special Topics Conference. The Leadership Mentoring Program provides the opportunity for nurse practitioners to obtain leadership development to work on goals that link their role as a nurse practitioner educator. Young, a Greenville, Mississippi native who earned a master's degree in nursing from Alcorn in 2005, is grateful for the opportunity to share her insight among her peers during the program. "I am overwhelmingly excited to have been chosen among the eight nurse practitioner educators for the program," said Young. "I am also grateful to receive indispensable knowledge from the organization which is a know leader in nurse practitioner education. I look forward to participating in this program and disseminating innovative information to my students, colleagues and the School of Nursing." As a dedicated nurse practitioner educator, Young feels that taking advantage of this opportunity to add more knowledge is vital to her progress in the field and ability to aid others. "Professional, holistic nursing is an integral part of life for dedicated members of the profession. Therefore, as a dedicated member of this prestigious profession, it is my mission to persistently advance in nursing and utilize it as the vehicle by which I can fulfill the healthcare necessities and educational opportunities for as many individuals possible. Being accepted for the program is consistent with my professional philosophy and mission as a nurse practitioner educator. This is essential to the attainment of my career goals.
