Howard University Receives $110,000 GM Foundation Grant

The General Motors Foundation awarded a $110,000 grant to Howard University to be used toward its science, engineering, mathematics and technology (STEM) curriculum, as part of GM Foundation's University Grants program.

The grant, which will be administered by United Negro College Fund, will be used to support a variety of initiatives at Howard University, including curriculum development projects, job skills development and creative design.

"Our valued and enduring partnership with the GM Foundation continues to support our mission to produce prepared and qualified graduates for innovative STEM careers," said Howard University Interim President Wayne A.I. Frederick. "This grant affords our students benefits of effective, hands-on educational resources and interactive classroom experiences."

In 2013, through its University Grants program, the GM Foundation will provide grants totaling $2.9 million to support 26 leading universities and partnering organizations across the country to advance STEM and related curricula that support innovation, technology and manufacturing.

"Working with leaders in education to strengthen curricula, foster a diverse learning environment and challenge young minds is a top priority for us," said GM Foundation President Vivian Pickard. "By supporting higher education programs, we are ensuring that the next generation of leaders and innovators receive the necessary knowledge and skills to compete in a global marketplace."

The GM Foundation funding at Howard University will be used to support the following:

SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING

Curriculum Development Project
