Cheyney University News June 2, 2014 Adams Selected To Participate in Prestigious NCAA ACE Program Cheyney University Head Women's Basketball Coach Kyle Adams has been selected by the NCAA to take part in the ACE (Achieving Coaching Excellence) program June 12th to 14th in Indianapolis, Indiana. Adams is one of a handful of coaches chosen nationally to participate in the three-day program, which includes coaching and professional development to help enhance each coach's skill set and develop their on- and off-the-court talents. "ACE has been an endeavor that I have wanted to pursue for quite some time. I am extremely honored to attend such a prestigious professional development opportunity," Adams admitted. "I am excited about the privilege to learn and grow as a leader and coach. I feel the knowledge and material shared will only enhance our women's basketball program here at Cheyney." The participants will be involved with a day of on-the-court development with coaches from around the nation followed by a day of professional development, including breakout sessions on leadership, networking, hiring process and expectations, career planning and contracts and representation. Attendees will participate in simulated interviews, engage senior level administrators looking to lead athletics departments, and hear from a number of professionals who can serve as mentors and advisors during the job search process. In addition, Adams and his colleagues will hear from innovators in the sports field and review the next steps in their pursuit of a head coaching position within collegiate athletics. The ACE program is administered by the BCA (Black Coaches Association) and supported by the NCAA. The program is designed to enhance an already talented group of minority collegiate basketball coaches to become the next generation of collegiate head basketball coaches. The mission of the ACE program is to promote the collegiate athletic coaching profession to ethnic minority basketball coaches and to identify, recruit and retain ethnic minorities in the collegiate coaching profession. It also provides professional development strategies for collegiate ethnic minority basketball coaches and enhances leadership skills. Since the program's inception in 2003, 67 coaches that have participated in the ACE program have been promoted or hired as head coaches at the NCAA Division-I level. SANDRA M.
