International Forum focuses on strategic partnerships
The Virginia State University (VSU) Center for Diplomacy and International Economics, along with the George H. Bennett Office of International Education, will hold its 14th International Forum on Friday, April 15, 2011, from 9:45a.m. to noon in Colson Auditorium, Harris Hall. The Forum, "The USA - Newly Independent States Strategic Partnership for Peace, Democracy and Development" will address important US foreign policy issues for students, faculty and the research community at large.
Invited keynote speakers include the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to the USA, Mr.Yashar Allyiev; Ambassador of Moldova to the USA, Mr. Igor Munteanu; the US Ambassador (ret.) J.T.Stewart, former US Ambassador to Moldova; and Dr. Stephen Bowers, Director of Center for Security and Science, Professor at Liberty University. The panel will address the following issues:
-The USA - Newly Independent States strategic partnership in the War on Terrorism and Non-Proliferation of nuclear weapons
-Challenges of Democracy in the developing world and the U.S. foreign policy response
-Toward a new, prosperous economy, self-sustained development and the importance of U.S. assistance
-New opportunities for the VSU partnership in education and research, exchange programs with universities of the Newly Independent States
The International Forums, organized each semester since 2004, represent highly important events for the VSU and Petersburg communities. They are sponsored by the department of political science, public administration and economics, under the leadership of Eminent Scholar, Professor of Economics and former Ambassador of Moldova to the USA, Dr. Ceslav Ciobanu; and Dr. Wallace McMichael, Chair.
