Trotty Named VP of Research, Dean of Grad School

Dr. Willie F. Trotty has been appointed as Vice President for Research and Dean of the Graduate School, as approved by the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents during their September 2010 meeting.

As dean, Trotty will return to a position where he spent much of his career. Before taking the helm as Vice President for Research and Development in 1998, he served as the Dean of the Graduate School and Director of Research and Sponsored Programs. Under his tenure, the graduate school experienced noted growth in graduate enrollment and helped secure major funding for several of the University’s research interests.

“This is an exciting transition for the University,” said Trotty. “I hope to continue growing the University’s research portfolio including expanding agriculture research and continue the work being done in health disparities, radiation science, communications, surface science and historic preservation.”

Trotty will also work with PVAMU graduate students, especially those enrolled in the four university doctoral programs, to ensure that the results of their research are impacting the state of Texas.

As the Vice President for Development and Research, Trotty led the organization through its first-ever capital campaign, which collected $33.2 million in donations to PVAMU.
