Farewell Event Held for President-elect Gwendolyn E. Boyd
The Metro D.C. Chapter of ASU's National Alumni Association held an unforgettable evening to say farewell and congratulations to one of its own, Dr. Gwendolyn E. Boyd, as she embarks upon her journey as ASU's next President on Feb. 1.

The affair, held at the prestigious Country Club at Woodmore in Mitchellville, Md., was attended by more than 300 of Dr. Boyd's closest friends, colleagues and fellow alumni. The gathering was hosted by Herman C. Dawson, ASU alumnus and associate Circuit Court Judge of Prince George's County, Md.
"Dr. Boyd brings a strong commitment to serve her community, her alma mater and the family of ASU," Dawson said. "Tonight demonstrates that she is well-loved and respected, not only in the D.C. area, but also across this country."

Many of the area's elected officials and community leaders were on hand to congratulate Boyd.
"Tonight is an example of the showing and outpouring of admiration and affection this community has for Dr. Boyd. ASU is lucky to have her at the helm, and she will do a terrific job," said Jay Walker, an ESPN sports announcer who has covered many HBCU sporting events, including ASU's Magic City Classic and Turkey Day Classic.

Current Metro D.C. Chapter President Shannon Cloman added to the chorus of well wishes.
"There are many local alumni and other constituents here tonight, not only to pledge their support to Dr. Boyd, but also to the ASU family and all of its initiatives. This chapter will continue to support the University in any way we can," Cloman said.

James McNeil, also of the D.C. Metro Chapter, summed up the evening with optimism about ASU's future under Boyd's leadership.
"This was a fantastic night," McNeil said. "The representation of the people here tonight is proof of the faith and confidence we have in Dr. Boyd. She will take ASU to the next level."
