ASU Awarded Grant to Host Summer Institute for Black Belt Students
By Kenneth Mullinax
ASU's Division of Continuing Education, in partnership with the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, has been awarded a $30,000 grant from the Federal Highway Administration and the Alabama Department of Transportation.

The grant will be used to host the 2015 National Summer Transportation Institute (NSTI) at ASU, a residential program that will introduce 15 ninth and tenth grade students from Alabama's Black Belt region to promising careers in transportation.

"The dual mission of the program is to enhance employment opportunities in transportation for young people in under-represented groups and to help motivate and prepare them to become an important part of the transportation workforce of the 21st century," said Dr. Carl Pettis, NSTI director.

The NSTI program will be held June 6 - June 27. The deadline to apply is May 22, 2015.

For student criteria and additional information, please visit www.alasu.edu/nsti, or contact the NSTI Director, Dr. Carl Pettis, at 334-229-4465, or the NSTI Program Coordinator, Dr. Michelle Foster, at 334-229-6842.
