University of Maryland Eastern Shore News July 14, 2014 Liverpool named interim UMES provost The University of Maryland Eastern Shore announced today that Dr. Patrick Liverpool is joining President Juliette Bell's administrative team as interim provost and vice president for academic affairs. "Dr. Liverpool has an impressive academic leadership background and broad experience as a college administrator," Bell said. "He has a reputation of engaging and collaborating with faculty and staff in a way that will enable UMES to continue seamlessly the work we do to prepare students for challenges they'll face as graduates." Liverpool, who calls Richmond home, retired from Delaware State University in Dover, where he served as the Dean of the School of Management as well as the MBNA Professor of Management. Since retiring, he has worked at several universities in an interim capacity, including Central State University in Ohio, where he replaced Dr. Bell as interim provost when she became UMES' 15th president. This past academic year, Liverpool was the Interim Dean of the School of Business and Economics at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro. He previously served as Interim Executive Vice President and Provost at Fisk University and Interim Dean of the School of Business at Florida A&M University. "I have completed several interim positions with the intention of ensuring there is continuity and progress, and to lay the groundwork for the incoming provost or dean," Liverpool said. "I do not accept an interim assignment with the intent of pursuing a personal agenda - nor with aspirations to be the next provost or dean," he said. "My job is to help President Bell and the University move forward to achieve its mission and vision." Earlier in his career, Dr. Liverpool was a Vice Provost at Virginia Tech and an Interim Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at NC A&T. Additionally, he served as Dean of the business schools at Virginia State, and Virginia Union universities. He was also a member of the faculties at Fisk University, the University of Toledo, and Howard University before moving into administration. Liverpool earned his undergraduate and MBA degrees from the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico and his Doctorate of Business Administration from Kent State University. He has a diploma in Labour and Cooperation from the Afro-Asian Institute in Tel Aviv, Israel, and participated in executive management programs at Harvard University and Harvard Business School.
