Savannah State to screen documentary on 1936 Olympics

Savannah State University's (SSU) Indie Film Festival kicks off on Saturday, April 21, with the screening of the NAACP Image Award-nominated documentary Olympic Pride, American Prejudice, about the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. Written and directed by award-winning filmmaker and Savannah native Deborah Riley Draper, (Versailles '73: American Runway Revolution) and narrated by Blair Underwood, Olympic Pride will be screened at 4 p.m., Torian Auditorium, Howard Jordan building.

A question-and-answer session with the filmmaker will follow. The screening is free and open to the public.

The SSU Indie Film Festival will be held April 24-26, 6 p.m., Student Union ballrooms. The festival is produced by The Golden Tiger Film Society, and created to engage students in the SSU Journalism and Mass Communications (JMC) department to get involved in film production.

Coffee Bluff Pictures and Draper will present the inaugural Jeanette Coleman Riley Golden Tiger Filmmaker Award, established in honor of Draper's mother who graduated from SSU in 1951, to recognize the top female filmmaker in the festival. The award includes a $250 cash prize from Coffee Bluff Pictures.
