Elizabeth City State University News August 9, 2022 University Trends Up in Dollars Raised By $1.4 Million Over FY21 Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) recorded $3,261,722 in private gifts for the fiscal year ending on June 30, 2022. Giving was up significantly in comparison to the 2021 fiscal year in multiple donor categories, including corporate, foundation, alumni, and organizations. Contributions from foundations alone totaled more than $1 million, and alumni giving increased by 24 percent. Additionally, the total number of donors to the university increased by 9 percent. This year's fundraising total is the highest since 2011, not including the historic $15 million gift from MacKenzie Scott, which is the largest gift received by ECSU. The bolstered philanthropic investment for ECSU is due to banner collaboration and support by corporations and foundations, friends of ECSU, partners, community organizations and other individuals. ECSU alumni donated over $400,000. Signature activities, such as the annual ECSU Foundation, Inc.'s Founders Day Scholarship Gala, reunion giving during Homecoming and the annual Day of Giving, strengthened the overall fundraising growth. "The Elizabeth City State University brand is and remains strong, which contributed to a surge in giving from current and new donor constituencies," says Anita B. Walton, vice chancellor for Institutional Advancement at ECSU. "We are grateful to each donor and partner whose investment in ECSU provides critical financial assistance to our students through scholarships and other support, as well as resources to help our faculty, and assists us in funding other university programs and priorities." "The university continues to be a valuable educational asset and shines in its return on investment to our students, the local community, the northeastern region of North Carolina and the nation," said Dr. Karrie G. Dixon, chancellor of ECSU. "We will continue to build on this foundation of excellence in all areas of our campus.
