Bethune-Cookman University News February 9, 2016 BETHUNE-COOKMAN UNIVERSITY TO NAME AMPHITHEATRE IN HONOR OF LOPER SISTERS Jennifer Loper Adams and Joneva Loper Will Be Honored This Friday at Upcoming Naming Ceremony The Helen Kottle Memorial Building amphitheater will be named in honor of two B-CU graduates, Joneva Loper and Jennifer Loper Adams. The sisters' family name will be proudly displayed; and the space will be known as the Loper Amphitheater. The naming ceremony is at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, February 12th on the South Lawn of the Kottle Building. Family, friends, classmates and supporters are invited to join the Loper sisters for this special occasion. The Loper sisters were born in Live Oak, Fla. Their family moved to Daytona Beach when their father, Joe Rhone Loper, took a position at Bethune-Cookman College in 1951. The Lopers grew up in Daytona Beach and went through the Volusia County School System, both attending South Street Elementary (now Turie T. Small Elementary) and Campbell Junior and Senior High Schools. They both followed in their mother's footsteps and matriculated at Bethune-Cookman College. Joneva graduated in 1969 with a degree in elementary education; Jennifer graduated in 1974 with a degree in business administration. In addition, both Jennifer and Joneva were initiated into the Gamma Tau Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Both Joneva and Jennifer are retired from their respective industries. Joneva spent 41 years in education. She taught for Dade County Schools, Volusia County Schools and traveled the world teaching for the Department of Defense. Jennifer spent most of her career as a computer programmer and senior database analyst with Lockheed Martin in Orlando. She retired in 2009. Both sisters are dedicated to their communities and churches. Joneva is a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church and is active with the Gamma Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She is also a member of the National Hook-up of Black Women, Inc. and the National Alumni Association of B-CU. Jennifer is the current president of the National Alumni Association of B-CU and also served as president of the Delta Omicron Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She is the former chair of Healthy Start Coalition of Orange County and the Orange County Council of PTAs. Jennifer is married to Henry Adams and they have a blended family of five.
