First Lady's Scholarship Luncheon for inauguration event will benefit JSU students

Sponsored by Trustmark and Candie L. Simmons, the inaugural First Lady's Scholarship Luncheon will be held at the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12.

The First Lady's Scholarship Luncheon will bring together individuals with a vested interest in the academic success of JSU students. The purpose of the occasion is to assist with alleviating some of the financial burden students face during their tenure at Jackson State.

The event's keynote speaker is The Honorable Barbara Blackmon, who represents Senate District 21, which consists of Madison, Attala, Holmes, Leake and Yazoo counties. The JSU alumna is also a managing partner of Blackmon and Blackmon, PLLC, general counsel for the General Missionary Baptist State Convention, Canton Municipal Utilities Commission and county attorney for Claiborne County, Mississippi.

JSU's MADDRAMA and Jazz Ensemble are set to perform during the event.

The luncheon is chaired by the vice president for Institutional Advancement and External Affairs, Veronica Cohen. It's co-chaired by executive director of University Communications Maxine Greenleaf, researcher/program analyst David Howard, chief development officer for Major and Planned Gifts Constance Lawson and director of Events and Visitor Services Carol Woodson.
