Job Posting: Government Documents Librarian -Tennessee State University

Faculty Status/Tenure-track

As a designated selective Federal Depository Library (FDLP), Tennessee State University (TSU), Brown-Daniel Library is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a Government Documents position. The Government Documents Librarian must maintain a strong familiarity with the Documents collection; stay up-to-date with FDLP instructions and announcements, responding accordingly to requests from the FDLP. Tennessee State University is required to provide public access to our FDLP collection, and support for locating and accessing these materials. The incumbent will be working under the direction of the Head of Reference and is expected to have the following credentials and qualifications:

  1. MLS degree from an ALA accredited library science degree program

  2. Minimum of three (3) years professional library experience working with government information, experience with library management systems, such as Sierra, cataloging modules and OCLC Connexion Client.

  3. Manage the FDLP documents selection profile, currently at 38% selective. Will also be responsible for selecting content that meets the needs of the primary library users and the general public

  4. Sound knowledge of FDLP guidelines and practices, including familiarity with government documents bibliographic control practices

  5. Knowledge of the SuDocs and the Library of Congress classification systems

  6. Familiar with copy cataloging in all formats

  7. Demonstrated knowledge of trends in public services and government information in academic libraries commitment to public services

  8. Excellent interpersonal skills; fluency in library and educational technologies

  9. Should have collection management of government electronic resources

  10. Incumbent will be expected to provide Information Literacy Instruction to classes of all disciplines and provide reference service at the information desk.
