Coahoma Community College October 2015 CCC to host national alcohol education program TIPS workshop CLARKSDALE - A program designed to empower students to intervene whenever alcohol is misused on a school campus has partnered with Coahoma Community College to host its upcoming "Train-the-Trainer" workshop. Training for Intervention Procedures (TIPS), a global leader in education and training for the responsible service, sale and consumption of alcohol, will be hosting its TIPS for the University Train-the-Trainer Workshop at CCC from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21. Unique in its approach, TIPS brings together administrators, faculty and students to create responsible campus atmospheres and reduce alcohol-related incidents. CCC Coordinator of Counseling Services Renee' Sanford will be among the 19 secondary and higher education professionals attending the invitation-only event. Those completing the training will become certified as a TIPS for the University Trainer. "I'm always excited anytime I can be a part of educating faculty, staff, the students, as well as myself," said Sanford. "Receiving the certification and then passing the knowledge on to our students is just one way Counseling Services is committed to carrying out our mission of 'One Team, One Goal, No Limits.'" Realizing that students are in the best position to address drinking behaviors among their peers, the workshop will train the secondary and higher education professionals in attendance to educate their students on how to develop their social skills and provide specific information that will allow them to determine when friends are getting into trouble with alcohol. After receiving the TIPS training, the students will be able to develop strategies and skills for intervening in alcohol-related situations that may occur on or off campus. "Whether or not students choose to drink, they will at some point in their college career face situations where alcohol is being consumed," said Sanford. "I am excited to become certified to train our students in the TIPS for the University curriculum and to help them develop strategies for creating a safe, responsible and socially-enjoyable Tiger Nation."
