Summer Transportation Institute Returns to Lincoln July 11

Lincoln University will host the residential 2016 Summer Transportation Institute for secondary school students from July 11 to July 29, 2016. The Institute is open to 24 rising seventh, eighth, and ninth grade students (12- to 14 year-olds), and each participant will receive a full scholarship to participate in the three-week summer program. Application deadline is June 19.

Participants will live in a university residence hall and eat in the university dining hall.

The purpose of the Institute is to stimulate interest in and create awareness of career opportunities that exist in the transportation industry.

The STI program, sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, is open to students attending public and private secondary schools in the tri-state region. The Institute is an extremely intense and structured learning opportunity for youth in the secondary school systems in Pennsylvania and nearby states.

The curriculum will expose students to all modes of transportation and adventures such as highway design, transportation of people and cargo, inter-modal transport systems, laws, regulations, safety, security, and career opportunities. Additionally students will participate in computer training, field trips and group projects.

For more information, contact Professor Kennie Edwards at 484-365-7305 or kedwards@lincoln.edumailto:kedwards@lincoln.edu.
