CONSORTIUM TARGETS STUDENT SUCCESS FOR MEN OF COLOR

Jefferson City, MO- Lincoln University has joined a partnership aimed at promoting success among men of color.  The Minority Male Community College Collaborative (M2C3) National Consortium on College Men of Color works to help institutions identify and address the specific challenges men of color face.  M2C3 provides an arena for idea sharing between community colleges and universities on how to best serve men of color pursuing a higher education.

Approaches like the Lincoln University Male Initiative Infantry Scholars Program provide students with tools and resources to matriculate from first-time enrollment persisting through to graduation.  National averages show that only 17% of Black men and 15% of Latino men complete community college work and move into a four-year institution within a span of six years.  The figures are also low for men from other ethnic groups, including Native American and Southeast Asian males.

Membership in M2C3 will provide Lincoln University with access to webinars, discussion boards, information sharing and the annual group meeting.  The consortium will provide added opportunities for professional development, insight into the success of the current programs serving men of color, and inspiration for new initiatives to serve these students.

Launched in February 2015, M2C3 is part of Achieving the Dream, a non-profit institutional reform for student success organization.
