LINCOLN UNIVERSITY HOSTS 1890 WELLNESS WALK AND FESTIVAL

Jefferson City, MO- On Thursday, April 23, 2015, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Lincoln University will host the 1890 Wellness Walk and Festival. Participants will walk for 1.89 miles and the $18.90 registration fee will go to the Justin Morrill scholarship for students at Lincoln University.

The Wellness Walk commemorates the 125th anniversary of the signing of The Second Morrill Act, established by Vermont U.S. Senator Justin Smith Morrill. With the passing of the act, lawmakers corrected discriminatory practices by Southern and border states that denied African Americans admission to public land-grant universities created by the First Morrill Act of 1862.

Governor Nixon has released a proclamation that April 23, 2015 is to be Lincoln University Day in Missouri. Lincoln University's Wellness Walk and Festival is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. to allow any state employees and school children the opportunity to participate in the walk and join the celebration festival in Jason Hall.  The walk begins promptly at 4:30 p.m. and is entirely on a flat surface. Everyone is invited to participate.

The festival will showcase many of Lincoln University Cooperative Extension and Research (LUCER) programs and projects. There will be native plants and aquaculture food samples, a petting zoo, a robotics display and more.
