Nationwide Insurance Gives to JCSU Scholarship Fund
Johnson C. Smith University hosted the Nationwide on Your Side Town Hall with Tavis Smiley. Centered on the idea of building a better community, the discussion featured Tavis Smiley as the moderator. Smiley is an award winning broadcaster and author.
Panelists included:
- Emma Allen, president Emma Allen Enterprises
- Yele Aluko, MD, FACC, FSCAL, director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories Presbyterian Cardiovascular Institute Mid-‐Carolina Cardiology Novant Health
- Dr. Christina Christian, head master Bethune-Mays Academy
- Dr. Patrick Graham, president/CEO Urban League of Central Carolinas
- Senator Malcolm Graham, state of North Carolina
- Erica Hilton, student, Johnson C. Smith University
- Damian Johnson, entrepreneur The Urban Business Network
- Reverend Dr. Casey R. Kimbrough, pastor the Mount Carmel Baptist Church of Charlotte, NC
Among some of the topics of discussion were economic empowerment, state of the African-American family, and health disparities. The audience participated with an interactive poll for the various topics presented. There also was a question and answer session.
Earlier that day, Nationwide's top executives held a panel discussion for JCSU students on "Preparing to transition into the workplace, post-college."
The event attracted more than 250 members of the greater Charlotte Community. At the end of the town hall, Nationwide representatives presented the University with a check for $10,000 for the JCSU scholarship fund.
