Congress to Campus Program to be held next week

The School of Arts and Sciences and the Department of Social Sciences at Alcorn State University are hosting the Congress to Campus Program Sept. 13-15, 2016. The Congress to Campus Program is run by United States Association of Former Members of Congress in Partnership with the Stennis Center for Public Service.

This program brings together former members of Congress and today's youth to increase civic literacy and participation. A bipartisan pair of former Congressional members visits college, university and community college campuses for two days. The Honorable Les AuCoin, (D-OR) and the Honorable Claudine Schneider (R-RI), both former members of the US House of Representatives, will visit Alcorn. Their visit will include a keynote speech Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 10 a.m. in the Medgar Wiley Evers Auditorium, located in the J.D. Boyd Library. This event is open to all students, faculty and staff.

"This program aims to engage students and provide inspiration that will lead to greater democratic participation, whether it is in the arena of public service or something as simple as exercising the right to vote," said Dr. Babu P. Patlolla, dean for the School of Arts and Sciences.
