Morgan, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Partner in Education
At Morgan State University's annual open house for the Patuxent Aquatic and Environmental Research Laboratory (PEARLhttp://www.morgan.edu/research_and_economic_development/patuxent_environmental_and_aquatic_research_laboratory/about_pearl.html), this past June 17, MSU President David Wilson joined Lt. Col. Michael S. Ruppert, deputy district commander for the Baltimore District U.S. Army Corps of Engineershttp://www.nab.usace.army.mil/, in signing a new Education Partnership Agreement (EPA).
The agreement, which was formed to spotlight the importance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and encourage the study of these disciplines at Morgan, provides a framework to pursue educational collaborations between the Corps of Engineers and the University. Also present at the signing and instrumental in developing this relationship were Victor McCrary, Ph.D., vice president, and Gerald Whitaker, director of defense and space programs, of Morgan's Division of Research and Economic Developmenthttp://www.morgan.edu/research_and_economic_development.html.
As a result of this partnership, Morgan may gain collaborative research programs, student internships, academic and career advisement, student mentoring, Army lectures and/or instruction related to STEM, enhancement of facilities, increased participation in programs such as interagency agreements and cooperative agreements, and contract opportunities.
