Morehouse School of Medicine News July 2014 The Inauguration of Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice Sixth President of Morehouse School of Medicine September 11-13, 2014 Atlanta, GA About the Inauguration Registration is now open.<https://www.regonline.com/inaugurationMSM> Valerie Montgomery Rice, MD, a Harvard-educated obstetrician and gynecologist, who was named executive vice president and dean of Morehouse School of Medicine in 2011, is the nation's first African-American woman to lead a freestanding medical school as chief executive officer. Dr. Montgomery Rice will retain the position of dean during her presidency, effective July 1, 2014. "I consider it an honor that our board is entrusting me with the responsibility of continuing to build on the legacy of this preeminent institution," said Dr. Montgomery Rice. "The vision is crystal clear.
