West Virginia State University Launches Master of Public Administration Program

Beginning with the fall 2015 semester, West Virginia State University (WVSU) will be offering a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree.

Designed for working professionals in the Kanawha Valley, the new MPA degree will utilize a cohort model with both evening and online classes.

"Our program is specifically geared toward busy professionals who are interested in enhancing their credentials for career advancement or those seeking a career change," said WVSU President Brian O. Hemphill. "We have designed our program to be one of the most affordable options in the area and also one of the most flexible."

The curriculum for the MPA program will use a hybrid model that divides coursework into two streams. The Administration/Management stream will focus on the executive side of Public Administration, while the Policy/Research stream will emphasize analytical policy skills and research.

Graduates of the program will have a mastery of the skills necessary to serve in leadership positions in the public sector, as well as the analytical policy skills necessary to develop, implement and evaluate the impact of public policies.

Students with appropriate work experience will complete the program with 36 credit hours earned over a two-year period.

Pre-professional students will be required to complete an additional six credit hours of an internship or applied work in an appropriate setting.

Enrollment for the fall semester at WVSU is now underway. Classes begin Monday, Aug. 17.
