Maya Angelou Stamp Unveiled
The spirit of the late great American Renaissance woman Maya Angelou was evoked in the University Museum June 20, as elected officials joined the United States Postal Service (USPS) and Angelou fans in the bestowing of the highest honor the USPS can bestow - the dedication of a postal stamp into circulation. On hand for the unveiling for the event are shown from left, Bobby Collins, USPS; Angel Moore, district director for Congresswoman Shelia Jackson Lee; Wanda Adams, Houston Independent School Board; Yul J. Melonson, USPS; Congressman Al Green; State Representative Sylvester Turner; Reverend Robert McGee, Sr. Pastor Trinity United Methodist Church; and Kelvin Dansby, USPS.
The programed, emceed by Dr. Dianne Jemison Pollard, featured reading of Angelou poems, a solo and issuance of proclamations from the Congressional offices of Jackson Lee and Green.
