Greetings Colleagues,

I trust you're well. The purpose of this e-mail is to provide information and application materials for the Building Capacity for Humanities Special Collections program re-grants. This five-year $365,000.00 National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) one-to-one matching challenge grant program is designed to build capacity for the long-term preservation and conservation of collections at member libraries. As a challenge grant, the HBCU Library Alliance is required to raise $365,000.00 for the total project budget of $730,000.00.

"Building Capacity - Year 1", funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, will offer a menu of preservation planning documents, collection surveys, treatment and rehousing services, and educational programs to member libraries. Through this outreach, the HBCU Library Alliance will assist member libraries in building capacity for fundraising for special collection initiatives, documenting cultural heritage materials, increasing accessibility of special collection items, and promoting the humanities significance of their broad collections of rare materials and their irreplaceable cultural heritage artifacts. The Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts (CCAHA) is providing professional services to support this component of the project.

Webinars

Four webinars have been presented to introduce the program and component services. CCAHA's Lee Price, Director of Development, Dyani Feige, Director of Preservation, and Jason Henn, Manager of Marketing and External Relations presented customized sessions that detailed the menu of programing, criteria and process for selecting the first round of grantees. Follow the link below to access the webinar recordings and PowerPoint PDFs. Only the PowerPoint for the August 2nd "Collections Care Basics" session is available.

I encourage you to review/share the webinars as needed to facilitate completing the application.  CCAHA's Lee Price and Dyani Feige are available to respond to your questions regarding programs and services. Their contact information is listed below.

Applying for Project Funding

A total of $130,000 is available for project funding. Libraries may apply for up to $30,000 in projects and may request a variety of projects in a single request. The $30,000 (maximum) figure will ensure that a minimum of five HBCU libraries will receive funds in each of the five rounds, although it is anticipated that the majority of re-grants will be smaller ($5,000 - 15,000) allowing for a larger number of HBCU libraries to receive funding for projects during the re-grant rounds. The library will assume responsibility for implementation of the project and agreed-upon dissemination of the funds, submitting final reports to the HBCU Library Alliance at the conclusion of their projects.

Submission Materials

Follow this link http://hbculibraries.org/docs/CCAHA.pdf to access descriptions for CCAHA programs and this link http://hbculibraries.org/docs/CCAHA-Application.pdf for the fillable PDF application.  Be sure to first save the PDF to your system, complete and return to me via e-mail.

Submission Finish-Line

Return the online application and any requested supporting documentation to me no later than Wednesday, November 27th.  Let me know if you have questions or need additional information.

Stay tuned!

Sandra
