Adult Education Program Receives Dollar General Grant
The Adult Education program of Coahoma's Workforce Development Center can now incorporate innovation into its mission with a newly awarded $7,500 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.
Dollar General has given grants amounting in more than $8.3 million to institutions of learning, including Northeast Mississippi Community College, as well as organizations based in the 44 states holding store locations. More than 1,000 grants were awarded.
CCC Adult Education program director Tamara Washington-Travis said, "Our Adult Education program is elated to receive this Dollar General Literacy Grant. It allows us to utilize additional resources to better serve our students."
Funding will go toward helping the program meet its current and future goals. Improving adult literacy remains a top goal for CCC and its five-county service area. Coahoma's AE program assists individuals age 17 and older in attaining their high school equivalency diploma and basic computer skills to increase chances for employment.
"It is important that we as educators stay abreast on technology and updated resources to ensure we are reaching everyone within the population we serve," said Travis. "We are an institution that strives to serve our community and build a better tomorrow."
