Voorhees graduate establishes a $100,000 endowed scholarship fund
Jerome Geathers, his wife, Carnella, and their children Rachel and Brian have established a $100,000 endowed scholarship for Voorhees College from Geathers Enterprises, Inc.
Founded by Geathers in 1994, Geathers Enterprises operates airport concessions out of the Charlotte Douglas International Airport.  The company also owns and manages residential and commercial rental properties. Geathers Enterprises nets annual sales of more than $5 million and employs more than 20 people.
After graduating from Choppee High School in Georgetown, S.C., Geathers enrolled in Voorhees. He graduated in 1972 from Voorhees with a bachelor's degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting.  He is a longtime scholarship contributor to the institution, having established the Jerome Geathers and Family Scholarship Fund in 2000 in the amount of $5,000.
His awards and recognitions include the Secretary of Labor Distinguished Career Service Award and the Regional Excellence Award. He is a fifteen-time recipient of the Secretary of Labor Exceptional Achievement Award and a twelve-time Secretary of Labor Outstanding Performance Award recipient.  In addition, Geathers was a 2007 inductee into the Voorhees College Hall of Fame and the 2014 honoree of the Voorhees College Keeper of the Flame.
Geathers is a member of the Phi Pi Graduate Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Voorhees College Charlotte/I-85 Corridor Alumni Chapter, Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, Airport Minority Advisory Council, a life member of NAACP, United Way, and Urban League.
Currently, Geathers is the owner of two stores inside the Charlotte Douglas International Airport; Queen City News and Gift Shop established in April 1994 and MAC, which opened in February 2016 in partnership with Estee Lauder Companies, Inc. and the DFASS Group.
The endowed scholarship fund was created to financially support students who are a part of the business administration and accounting programs. The Division of Institutional Advancement along with the Division of Fiscal and Administrative Affairs will select qualified students annually to receive the funds.
