MVSU Hosts Governor and U.S. Senator at Annual Community Reception

Mississippi Valley State University hosted its Annual Community Reception featuring the Honorable Phil Bryant, Mississippi's 64th Governor. Gov. Bryant volunteered his time to visit the Itta Bena campus during the University's Green & White Day at the Capitol.
The annual event is held to garner support and spark an interest in MVSU from the community. This year's event drew a crowd of over 300 supporters.
Gov. Bryant called on federal, state and higher education officials to work together to assist MVSU. "We will be here tomorrow and into the future," Gov. Bryant said. "We are committed to Valley, and we always will be."
MVSU President William B. Bynum Jr. noted that the event is a part of the University's One Team vision which is University and Community Stakeholders working together. "It is very important that we keep the University alive and thriving through our relationships and partnerships," said Dr. Bynum. "I believe one entity can't survive without the other. Many in the community can't survive without the patronage of MVSU and its students, faculty, staff and alumni; and MVSU can't survive without the continued support and goodwill of our community and business leaders."
U.S. Senator Roger Wicker also attended this event along with IHL Commissioner Hank Bounds, the Board of Trustees, Mississippi Legislators, and Community Friends.
"The main focus of our Community Reception is to continue to cultivate and build relationships across our state and beyond," said Dr. Bynum. "There is great growing support for MVSU based on the number of government officials, community leaders and alumni in attendance."
Sen. Wicker agreed to be a part of the team to assist in building support for MVSU.
