SU set to unveil Scotlandville Community Development Plan
The Southern University School of Architecture's "Urban + Rural Community Design Research Center" will hold the unveiling of its' Scotlandville Comprehensive Community Development Plan (SCCDP) from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m., June 30, in the Jewel Newman Community Center, 2013 Central Road.
Scotlandville residents, business owners, Southern students and the general public are invited to attend.
The SCCDP identifies and analyzes the relationships between the economy, transportation, housing, the physical environment, land use and zoning, social services, and other community components in the Scotlandville area.
During the unveiling, local and state agencies who participated in the development of the SCCDP will discuss how they plan to assist in the implementation of the plan. Community members, local and state agencies, business owners and stakeholders who have been active in the development of the SCCDP will be recognized for their efforts.
A video documenting the SCCDP's process will also be shown during the unveiling.
Since the fall of 2009, Southern's U+R CDRC has conducted a series of "Listening Tours," workshops and Charrettes, or community planning sessions, to discuss improvements and structural changes wanted by residents of the Scotlandville community. The information gathered was used to develop the SCCDP.
Until recently, the Scotlandville community was one of the only areas in the parish that has not seen revitalization efforts over the last decade. The SCCDP will be used to assist in the revitalization of the area with amenities requested by the community's residents and business owners.
Copies of 'The Synopsis of the SCCDP' will be available at the conclusion of unveiling.
