Educational Talent Search Program convenes through summer months
Youth initiatives looking to occupy students' summer breaks with learning exploration are back in session. One of which is Coahoma Community College's Educational Talent Search Program. Students grade 8th-12th are assembling for a Summer Enrichment Program slated to run until June 26. ETS staff focuses on a different grade level of approximately 25 participants each week.
Having returned to an in-person structure, guidelines, including social distancing, are observed during its workshops involving STEM activities to ensure a safe environment conducive to productivity. Moreover, this summer will be the first time participants receive a one-time $60 stipend for attending and participating in the program. Participants will be treated to an informative, fun-filled STEM Camp set for June 28-30, 2021, and a Video and Music Camp July 7-9.
ETS, a federally funded pre-college program in line with the Higher Education Act, upholds a mission to contribute to the student's development and expand the student's academic potential. It aims to prepare the students mainly from area secondary schools for admission into post-secondary institutions by providing basic information on higher education options. Cohorts are connected to services including, but not limited to, mentoring, ACT Prep, study and test-taking skills, college and university tours, and summer enrichment.
8th-12th graders enrolled at Coahoma Early College High School, Coahoma County Junior/Senior High School, W.A. Higgins Middle School, J.W. Stampley Ninth Grade Academy, and Clarksdale High may apply to join scholars for the 2021-2022 school term by filling out the application found at http://www.coahomacc.edu/talent-search/. Alternatively, ETS staff are also offering to assist applicants at the contact information below.
