REVIVING THE BENNETT IDEAL: FOUNDERS? DAY SERVICE

Bennett College will formally install its seventeenth president, Dr. Rosalind Fuse-Hall, on September 27, 2014. The week-long celebration concludes on Sunday, September 28th with the Founders? Day Observance at 11:00 a.m. in the Annie Merner Pfeiffer Chapel. The event is free and open to the public.

The Right Reverend Vashti Murphy McKenzie, Presiding Prelate of the 10th Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, the entire state of Texas, will deliver the message. Elected and consecrated as the 117th candidate for Episcopal service, Bishop McKenzie represents the Bennett Ideal. She is the first woman to occupy this sacred office in the life of the AME Church, the oldest Black denomination in the United States.

Historic firsts continue for this dynamic woman of God. Within the AME Church she has served as President of the Council of Bishops, Chair of the General Conference Commission and host bishop for the 49th Session of the General Conference, held in Nashville, TN, July 2012. Bishop McKenzie is Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of Paul Quinn College, Dallas, TX. She is a member of the Board of Trustees of the International Theological Center, Atlanta, GA. She was appointed by President Obama to serve on the inaugural President?s Advisory Council of the White House Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. At his invitation, she delivered the message for the 2014 annual White House Easter Prayer Breakfast.

Bishop McKenzie is a prolific author having published five literary offerings. Not Without A Struggle and Strength in the Struggle address leadership and professional growth in women. Journey to the Well offers women guidance as they seek new directions for personal transformation using the parable of the Samaritan woman. Swapping Housewives is a retelling of Jacob?s labors for Leah and Rachel while sharing twenty-first century implications for married and unmarried love. A revised version of Not Without A Struggle was released in 2012. Those Sisters Can Preach! is her newest release. It features words of wisdom contained in the sermons of twenty-two women preachers.

Bishop McKenzie is the recipient of innumerable honors. The most recent include a designation by the Huffington Post as one of the 50 most powerful women religious leaders in the world. Her online teaching ministry includes daily meditations at www.thisisyourwakeupcallonline.com She launched The Greatest of These is Love mix tape comprising ten mini messages as notes for the soul in February 2012.
