STUDENT LIAISON SWORN IN TO JEFFERSON CITY CITY COUNCIL

Jefferson City, MO- A new position on the Jefferson City City Council will give Lincoln University and its student population a voice in local government.  Jonathan Jackson, a senior business marketing major from Kansas City, Missouri, has been sworn in as the first Student Liaison on the Jefferson City City Council. Mayor Carrie Tergin listed the position and strengthening the ties between the community and the university as a top priority following her election in April.

"I'm very excited to bring a student representative from Lincoln University to the City Council," says Tergin. "This relationship and building a partnership with Lincoln University is very important to me. Jonathan has the enthusiasm and will be a perfect fit as the first Student Liaison to the City Council. I am very excited to learn from him and work with him."

Jackson says he learned about the position soon after the election and was excited about the opportunity to serve both the university and the community.

"As a student, I think it is critical for our university to have a voice in our local political scene. I am pleased to serve as the first Student Liaison on the Jefferson City City Council and I plan to do so with the Blue Tiger Pride I have displayed in my years at Lincoln University. I am grateful to Mayor Tergin, Campus and Community Liaison and Fourth Ward Councilman Carlos Graham and Lincoln University President Dr. Kevin Rome for this wonderful opportunity."

Jackson adds he hopes to bridge the gap he sees between the community and the university.  He says inviting the community to campus and also exposing the student body to community activities will be a good starting point.
