Special Collections/Outreach Librarian
Library Services
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore is accepting resumes for a full-time, regular position with full benefits. Salary is negotiable. The University Library is committed to providing customer-driven services through its staff and up-to-date technology.
Responsibilities: Leads daily operations of Special Collections Department including reference services, reprographic services and supervision of the 2nd floor and special collection stack maintenance; formulates the department's strategic plan within the context of the University Libraries' strategic plan; sets priorities for the collections and the preservation and the management of digital initiatives; oversees the University Archives which is approximately 221 cubic feet of records including clippings, photographs, yearbooks, correspondences, reports and an array of other archival records; provides educational outreach to all library users who do and may potentially use Special Collections materials which include outreach in the form of direct contact, marketing and other technologies and innovative approaches; and participates in collection development for one or more academic disciplines and associated faculty and student liaison activities and renders support in the reference department. Some Saturdays required. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: MLS or MLIS degree from an ALA accredited program school required. A minimum of three (3) years of post MLS professional level special collections experience in an academic library setting. Experience in rare books and manuscripts preferred. Knowledge of digital formats and standards preferred.  Experience with grant implementation strongly desired. Exceptional interpersonal skills, positive attitude, cultural sensitivity and sense of humor in working with library users, co-workers, and community required. Excellent organizational, communication and supervisory skills required. A commitment to public services and understanding of the scholarly research environment required.  Skills in the use of social media and using technology required to perform assigned duties as well as knowledge of OCLC automated systems procedures and operations required. Must be able to thrive in a team setting, handle multiple responsibilities and operate effectively in a diverse academic community.
