Greetings Colleagues,
I trust you're well. Today I'm celebrating the ‘‘Golden Thirteen,” the 12 African American Navy Sailors who in 1944 were commissioned as ensigns and one Sailor who was made a warrant officer. Three other African-American Sailors also passed the training; however, they were not commissioned because of a decision made by the Navy. All 16 compiled a class average of 3.89, which hasn’t been broken in more than 60 years.
