Chinese Delegation Visits on Study Tour of American Liberal Arts Education
Twelve officials from the Chinese Ministry of Education and leading Chinese universities visited Texas Southern University Dec. 8 at the invitation of the United States Department of Education. The delegation visited to discuss how a liberal arts education is defined and implemented, how academic administrators decide what should be included in the curriculum, and how faculty is selected and trained to teach undergraduates in the liberal arts, among other issues. Following introductions, the delegation was given a walking tour of the Hannah Hall murals, the University Museum and the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Texas Southern was the only college in the south and the only Historically Black College visited.
The delegation was greeted by Wendy Adair, Vice President of University Advancement; Elizabeth Brown-Guillory, Associate Provost/AVP for Academic and Faculty Affairs and Interim Dean, Thomas F. Freeman Honors College; Lei Yu, Dean College of Science and Technology; Jason Oby, professor/interim Chairman Department of Music; Alvia Wardlaw, Director/Curator University Museum; and Leamon Green, professor of Visual and Performing Arts.
