Greetings Colleagues,

I'm sharing very important information with you!

Tina Rollins, Balance of Term Board Position

The Board of Directors has approved Tina Rollins, Library Director, Hampton University (VA) to serve a balance-of-term Board position, ending June 30, 2020.  Jean Greene, who represented the public position, and was Vice-Chair, left the Board in January.  Tina will not serve as Vice-Chair, but as a member of the Board. Although Tina's institution is private, her skill and expertise for this balance of term position are highly regarded and desirable as the Board aggressively advances the mission and vision of the HBCU Library Alliance. Look for her to connect with you regarding HBCU matters of concern. Her resume is attached for your review.  Feel free to send congrats to Tina at tina.jarrett@hamptonu.edumailto:tina.jarrett@hamptonu.edu.

Digital Library Federation "Authenticity" Project

The Digital Library Federation (DLF) and HBCU Library Alliance are partnering on the IMLS funded "Authenticity Project: Fostering Dynamic Fellowship Cohorts, Strategic Organizational Partnerships and Authentic Community.

DLF Executive Director Bethany Nowviskie and I conferenced last week regarding project implementation.  Bethany will join us at the October Membership meeting to briefly describe project activities.

The Authenticity Project has the following goals:

  1. Provide DLF Forum travel bursaries that will enable Alliance member libraries to intersect with and enrich the broader digital library community;

  2. Establish lasting and reciprocal mentoring relationships across both of our organizations;

  3. Encourage DLF members to engage with Alliance activities;

  4. Enable Alliance leadership to attend the DLF Forum and allied meetings for mutual exchange and strategic planning between our organizations, and;

  5. Deepen and enrich inter-institutional exchange among our members by incentivizing collaboration among DLF and Alliance member libraries through competitively-awarded Fellow-led micro grants for joint projects of strategic importance to both organizations.

A Mentoring component is our first phase of action for this project.  The HBCU Library Alliance has a long-standing tradition of mentoring to support community members and to create a climate of mentoring across institutions.

Stay tuned for more information and a call for solicitation!
