Flint Water Crisis

In response to the ongoing water crisis facing the citizens of Flint, Mich., as well as to the concerns of Dillard University students about clean water issues closer to home, the University's School of Public Health, in conjunction with the department of Urban Studies and Public Policy hosted a forum on Tuesday, February 16, in the Georges Auditorium.
"While the ongoing tragedy in Flint is the catalyst for this forum, we are aware that these issues are impacting communities throughout the nation," said Kesia Walker, a member of the Dillard Public Health faculty and the organizer of the event.  "Right here in Louisiana, you don't have to look any further than the city of St. Joseph, where the residents there have been under a boil notice since 2012.  Our students want to know what they can do to affect change.  Part of our mission is to develop young people who will make the world a better place.  We hope this forum gives them a starting point to do just that."
The event included a brief documentary detailing the situation in Flint, followed by a student-led panel discussion centered on creating action. The forum concluded with special guest Lt. General Russel Honoré (Ret.), discussing water sustainability here in Louisiana and beyond.
