The Pickering Program provides 30 graduate fellowships annually to highly qualified seniors and college graduates committed to joining the Department of State's Foreign Service.

Following a competitive bid process, Howard University has been selected to administer the 2019 Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship Program, a U.S. Department of State program that attracts and prepares young people for careers of international service as Foreign Service Officers.  Working closely with the U.S. Department of State through a cooperative agreement, Howard will open the 2019 Pickering Fellowship application on July 3, with a deadline of September 20, 2018.

Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship to honor Career Ambassador Thomas R. Pickering.

Howard University's Director of Diplomatic Fellowships Patricia Hanigan Scroggs adds, "We are really excited to administer the Pickering Fellowship Program.  We are attracting and training incredibly talented future Foreign Service Officers, and the program will have a significant impact on the leadership of U.S. diplomacy into the future."
