DSU moves up in HBCU rankings by U.S. News & World Report
Delaware State moved up two spots in the annual rankings of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HCBU) by U.S. News & World Report.
DSU is tied for 15th with South Carolina State. Howard (2nd), Hampton (4th) and Morgan State (18th) are other Mid-Atlantic schools ranked in the top 20.
DSU President Harry Lee Williams said that the school still has work to do to reach the ultimate goal of being No. 1 among HCBU in the country. He did add, though, that the rise in the rankings shows that the school is moving in the right direction.
"It shows what happens when we focus, stay on task with clear goals and remain consistent with the vision that we have developed for this University," Williams said. "We are happy, but not satisfied."
When the U.S. News & Report first published its HCBU rankings in 2008, DSU was ranked No. 22. It was No. 17 in 2009 and 2010.
The HCBU rankings are based on assessment by administrators at peer institutions, retention of students, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving.
