Fulbright Scholar addresses scientists at Fort Valley State University

Dr. Babul C. Sarker, a visiting Fulbright Scholar from Bangladesh, lectured to more than 25 students, faculty and staff at Fort Valley State University's Stallworth Biotechnology Building auditorium on May 18.  Fullbright Scholarship recipients from abroad receive grants to conduct research and study in the U.S. for a semester or school year.

Sarker's lecture titled, "Technologies, Problems and Future Prospects of Major Fruit Production in Bangladesh," discussed how his research is trying to improve the qualities of various fruits exported and grown in high in his native country. These fruits include bananas, pineapples and mangos.

Dr. Bipul Biswas, assistant professor of biotechnology in the College of Agriculture Family Sciences and Technology at FVSU, said the lecture presented a learning experience for faculty and students in attendance. He said several faculty members expressed an interest in pursuing Fulbright scholarships for overseas research opportunities and wished to have more Fulbright Scholars visit FVSU in the future.

The horticulturalist's visit to FVSU is made possible by the Outreach Learning Fund (OLF). This fund allows visiting Fulbright Scholars currently in the U.S. to visit institutions of higher learning to discuss research and history in their home country.
