IBCS Receives President's Volunteer Service Award

New Orleans LA - The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) has awarded the Xavier University of Louisiana Institute for Black Catholic Studies (IBCS) a 2014 United States President's Volunteer Service in recognition of its commitment to strengthening the nation through volunteer service.

The award, whose stated three-fold purpose is to recognize and honor volunteers as a way of setting a standard for service, to encourage a sustained commitment to civic participation, and to inspire other to make service a central part of their lives, was originally established in 2003 by President's Council on Service and Civic Participation. Today the award program is administered as a CNCS initiative.

The IBCS, established in 1979 to help sustain and support the pastoral and intellectual needs of Black Catholics throughout the United States, offers a Master's degree in Pastoral Theology and continuing education units in Catechesis, leadership and youth/young adult ministry.
