Coahoma Community College News April 14, 2014 CCC's Division of Health Sciences Hosts Annual Job Fair Coahoma Community College's students were given to opportunity to network, explore healthcare-related businesses, and learn about potential future job opportunities during a job fair Friday. Hosted by Division of Health Sciences at the Allied Health building, the annual job fair brought in nearly twenty representatives from the Mississippi Delta and from as far away as Memphis. The fair featured a wide range of businesses, including hospitals, nursing homes, home health agencies, medical equipment companies, hospices, and universities and connected with them freshman and sophomore CCC Health Sciences majors, which include Associate Degree Nursing (AND), Practical Nursing (PN), Polysomnography (Sleep Technology), Respiratory Care, Nursing Assistant, Phlebotomy/EKG, Paramedic, and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). The students dressed interview-ready and received valuable information about career opportunities and requirements. Several of the representatives brought pamphlets and displays, to give students additional information about what their particular business offered. Students also enjoyed a tour of a medical helicopter provided by Pafford Ambulance Services of Clarksdale. "This is an opportunity for the representatives to visit and talk to out students about general salary information, benefits, and orientation," said CCC's Vice-President of Health Sciences Beverly Overton. "The employers like it because they get to meet the students, and it also benefits the student because it acquaints them with possible employment opportunities and gives them exposure early, even though it may not be until next year when they graduate." Following job fair, the PN and ADN students were able to participate in a nursing advisory committee meeting. The committee included area employers and CCC faculty and administrators. During the meeting, employers identified the students' strengths and weaknesses and exchanged information about upcoming events and training opportunities. "The stakeholders are able to come to the table with the educators; it's a win-win situation," said Overton. SANDRA M.
