Hampton University Office of International Studies Hosts Annual Study Abroad Fair

Hampton University's Office of International Studies hosted their Annual Study Abroad Fair for undergraduate students, providing endless opportunities for students who are ready and eager to study abroad. Students may believe that it is too expensive to study abroad, or perhaps studying abroad is out of their comfort zone, but the Office of International Studies helps students choose the right programs for them and are able to help students with resources that will help them attain their goals.

"It is so important for students to take advantage of the opportunities we provide here at our prestigious university. Studying abroad is an excellent opportunity for students to travel the world while receiving a great educational experience," said Hampton University President, Dr. William R. Harvey.

Representatives from various organizations were present at the fair to share their information about international education, internships, faculty-led tours, different study abroad programs and scholarships.

"We are here promoting study abroad for Hampton University students. There are winter term programs that students can apply for and programs are open to all majors and all language abilities. It's a myth that you have to know a foreign language to study abroad. There are also many scholarships available to students," said a representative from the American Institute for Foreign Study. "Many of the programs that are here offer their own scholarships, plus there is also outside funding available through the federal government. Sometimes the awards can range from $3,000 to $5,000. Hampton students have the opportunity to see the whole world while earning a course credit."

Many students attended the fair throughout the day to look more into study abroad and to learn about the Office of International Studies.

"I'm here today to take advantage of the opportunities that we have here to study abroad. I think it's important, especially during our college days. We need to get out of our college zone and study more of the world and learn more about different cultures, as well as getting an education," said Freshman student, Cameron Johnson.

Scholarships available:

  • Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship

  • Benjamin Franklin Travel Grant
