Benedict College News May 14, 2014 Benedict College Freezes Tuition for Second Consecutive Year Benedict College is pleased to announce that there will be no tuition increase for the 2014-15 academic year. This is the second consecutive year the College has chosen not to increase tuition, a decision that was approved by the College's Board of Trustees during its spring meeting. In addition to the freeze on tuition, there will be no increase in fees for room and board and auxiliary school fees. This will apply to in-state and out-of-state, new, and returning students, including students in the continuing education program. With approximately 95 percent of Benedict College students receiving some type of aid, the College remains committed to offering the best and quality, affordable education in the eastern United States. "We acknowledge that numerous families are challenged in these tough economic times and want to do our part to make a Benedict College education both accessible and affordable for our students," said Dr. David H. Swinton, President and CEO of Benedict College. "Our proposed second two-year tuition freeze will go a long way to assisting working families and students have access to higher education." Tuition and fees will remain at $9,143 per semester for all full-time non-boarding students and $13,195 per semester for boarding students. The College will continue to administer academic and performancebased scholarships and generous financial aid packages for qualifying students. Benedict College is the second largest of the 20 private institutions in the South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities network, and one of the first to respond to the growing cost of higher education by adopting the tuition freeze. The liberal arts college offers undergraduate programs in 34 disciplines, including its continuing education program, which offers degrees in interdisciplinary studies (general and public safety) and business administration. For four consecutive years, Washington Monthly magazine ranked Benedict among the best baccalaureate institutions in the nation based on its contribution to the public good.
